Dr. C. Joseph Anderson is board-certified in ophthalmology and is a fellowship-trained expert in inflammatory diseases and glaucoma.

Joseph Anderson, M.D. co-foundered Anderson & Shapiro Eye Care with Dr. Michael Shapiro. Prior to retiring, Dr. Anderson was an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin. For the last three decades, he taught residents and other ophthalmologists.
Dr. Anderson graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame and completed medical school and his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin.
During this time, he was elected to the highest medical honor society of Alpha Omega Alpha. Following his residency, he completed fellowship training in corneal and inflammatory eye diseases at the University of Indiana Medical School.
Dr. Anderson frequently lectured on cataract and refractive surgery. As an innovator in the field, he invented and improved safety techniques for eye anesthesia. He constantly gave back to the medical community and has authored numerous medical articles and book chapters.
He pioneered the first use of a multifocal implant lens in the state of Wisconsin. Dr. Anderson has been named to the Best Doctors in Madison list, as well as Best Doctors in America and Who’s Who.
Dr. Anderson and his wife, Carole, have two children, Nicole and Jon, and five beautiful grandchildren. They are very proud of the fact that their daughter, Nicole, completed her fellowship in ophthalmology and joined Anderson & Shapiro Eye Care.
Dr. Anderson enjoys a variety of athletics, having completed an Iron Man competition and many other triathlons, endurance biking events and he loves spending time with his extended family.
